Amanda Yu is a rising star.

A year ago, Amanda Yu was trying to pick her major at Cal State East Bay. Now, she’s burning up the runways for the country’s top fashion designers.
Within two months of moving to New York, the 19-year-old San Ramon native’s career skyrocketed. Yu booked Teen Vogue, Saks Fifth Avenue, Claire’s, and Abercrombie, and walked the runways in New York Fashion Week. This winter, she is scheduled to be on the cover of Target’s holiday catalog.

“Being in Teen Vogue was amazing. I used to have Seventeen and Teen Vogue subscriptions. They were like my bible,” says Yu, who has worked for heavy-hitting designers such as Rachel Roy, Karen Walker, and fellow Bay Area native Erin Fetherston.
Already, Yu has learned the tricks of the trade for keeping skin looking flawless and runway ready: Erase your makeup thoroughly, stay hydrated, and eat the right nutrients. But she will make an exception for her favorite pizza on trips home. “New York pizza is great, but Ascona is really the best!”
