Where is it? 1840 Portola Ave., Livermore, (925) 443-3240.
When is it open? Lunch and dinner every day.
Why try it? The best burger in Livermore with an irresistible puffy “milk bun” (which the cooks brand like cattle). The atmosphere is retro cool, with a 1928 Model T, a cowboy bar with local brews on tap, and a long diner counter with swivel seats, just like you’d find in the good ol’ days.
What to order? The Rock House burger, topped with Gorgonzola and onion marmalade. Or the spicy Alamo burger. Be sure to get the sweet potato fries with curried ketchup. And wash it down with a Hella Hoppy from Livermore’s Altamont Beer Works.
How much? Salads, sandwiches, and burgers are $7–$12.
Who goes? The Rock House is a big restaurant with a spot for everyone: Sports fans will enjoy the games (37 TVs at last count); cowboys and singles will love the long bar; and families and couples will be happy in the relaxed dining room.
