The smoked brisket here is unique, but what gives Augie’s its Montreal accent is the poutine—thrice-fried red potatoes doused in brown gravy and loaded with squeaky cheese curds. The Le Montroyal sandwich loads 12 ounces of beef on superfresh, lightly seeded rye. Located in an industrial enclave off Interstate 80, Augie’s is still improbably homey, due in no small part to Grandma’s matzo ball soup. Lunch Wed.–Sun., dinner Thurs.–Sun.
