Writers Peggy Orenstein and Viet Thanh Nguyen and musical artists Beck and Rainbow Girls were among the stars at the Notes and Words benefit held this spring at the Fox Theater in Oakland. The event supported the nearby UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, ranked among the best pediatric hospitals in the country. Oakland youth poet vice laureate Nadia Elbgal and Oakland School for the Arts’s Vocal Rush also performed.
